Juniper Networks - JUNOS Simulator (Olive on VMware)

April 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi All,

I`m a fan of Juniper Networks JUNOS and cleared few Certs without much hands-on experience on the router.

Many thanks goes to following brilliant guys:

These Guys devoted their time and shared the precious knowledge with us so we can also get into the awesome OS running on extremely powerful routers which are most favored to Tier-1/2 ISPs in the World.

I have created VMWare with JUNOS 8.5 version and quite comfortably ran RIP,OSPF and IS-IS, I created 6 virtual Olives on my VMware machine.

(my created network scenario diagram is inside the torrent)

I would suggest you get VMware 6 workstation and use the app to create clones and most importantly virtual interfaces to bind with each router.

There was a BIG issue regarding VMware Olive failure on multicasting and one of our Chinese friend wrote a patch to overcome the problem.

In my VM i have already copied the patch and you need to run it manually as mentioned before running any Routing Protocol which uses multicasting…

=============================================

1. Boot Olive with single mode

input <space> & at “OK” prompt input “boot -s”

2. At # prompt. Execute kldload /boot/syscall.ko”
3. Move back to multiuser mode by pressing “Ctrl+D”
4. login as root and execute command for no. of interface in olive.
“sysctl dev.em.0.fix_em_multicast=1″

As we will have have more network card active them all
“sysctl dev.em.1.fix_em_multicast=1″
“sysctl dev.em.2.fix_em_multicast=1″

=================================================

JUNOS taking over…. Juniper rocks!

Before you all starts cursing… please note due load-shedding it is poblematic for me to seed non-stop and keep my PC running and also due to my 8hrs shift I start seeding when I`m home so Please be patient..
